“ Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” - Tony Robbins
What Are Your Goals? To create your personal vision step-by-step, the first step will be identifying your desired goals in life. Do you wish to become an entrepreneur who starts multimillion-dollar companies or an artist or stay-at-home parent? In these first stages of visioning one's ideal life, writing down all of these ambitions may serve as inspiration in making decisions that lead to them coming true.
Before proceeding further, it's essential that you create a list. Brainstorm by gathering paper and pen (not computers) and listing every thing that comes to mind about what you would like to achieve in life. Don't censor or hold back; write everything that comes up without restriction or limitation.
If this task proves challenging for you to accomplish at once, take your time. Keep the list with you throughout the day and add to it whenever an idea strikes you - that way when your task is finished you won't feel defeated!
Again, don't get bogged down in worrying what others might have on their list; everyone is different and unique with different goals in life; your list will likely differ from every person you know-even your identical twin if that is the case! That is perfectly normal and should be expected.
Go back through your list and analyze every item on it carefully. Is this something you truly desire or does it represent something you think should exist? Cross off those which don't belong in an instantaneous fashion.
What remains is a list of goals you want to attain in life, with particular ones exerting more pull than others - these should receive special consideration. Place stars next to those which stand out most.
Once that's completed, take another look through your list and assess whether all of your goals are compatible. It may turn out that some are contradictory or simply can't be accomplished simultaneously - becoming both an actor and astronaut, for instance, won't happen simultaneously!
Now comes the hard part - choosing between goals. Here you may need to make painful choices as to which are most important for you and which can be sacrificed in order to reach other ones. Once selected, start marking off any that don't make the cut - although this process may hurt, it must be done.
Once complete, copy down all surviving goals onto a blank sheet of paper - this is where your vision statement begins!
